Storing lyophilised material
Lyophilised peptides are stable for extended periods at -20°C, protected from light and moisture. A frost-free freezer that cycles temperature is worse than a stable chest freezer. Keep vials in their original packaging with desiccant where supplied.
Always allow a vial to equilibrate to room temperature before breaking the seal. Opening a cold vial in a warm room draws condensation into the powder, and water is the enemy of a lyophilised peptide.
Reconstitution technique
Use bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol) for multi-use research vials, or sterile water for single-use work. Swab both stoppers with alcohol and let them air-dry.
Introduce the diluent slowly against the inside wall of the vial so it runs down onto the pellet rather than striking it directly. Let the pellet dissolve on its own; if needed, roll the vial gently between your palms. Never shake — mechanical agitation and foaming denature peptides.
- Equilibrate to room temperature before opening
- Diluent down the vial wall, never directly onto the pellet
- Swirl or roll gently; never shake or vortex
- Label with reconstitution date immediately
Post-reconstitution stability
Once in solution, refrigerate at 2–8°C and protect from light. Most reconstituted research peptides are used within 14–28 days depending on the sequence; check the storage note on the individual product page.
Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles of solutions. Where longer storage is required, aliquot into single-use volumes before freezing so the bulk is never thawed twice.
